CSR & Sustainability at Search Seven
At Search Seven, we are extremely passionate about benefiting our local community, which is why we set-up our ‘S7 Charity Pledge’, whereby we aim to give up to 7% of our profits back to the local community and charities every year.
As a company with meaning at our core, we constantly strive towards social responsibility. We also recognise how important social responsibility is to our customers, too. As such, we identify the need for sustainable development and continually aim to have a positive economic, social and environmental impact through our activities. We strive to be a responsible business and to contribute to our local community in Brighton using the skills we have in-house by volunteering, and we provide a charity discount on all our digital marketing services.
Everyone in the company can nominate a charity to fundraise for throughout the year, and staff are offered half a day every month to participate in the company’s CSR programme, where they can apply their own passion, skills or interests into benefiting the local community.
Our flagship charity is The Trevor Mann Baby Unit, who we have supported since 2013, and the S7 Ted’s Trophy is our main ‘sporting’ event where we engage with the local community to get everyone involved in a community team event, to raise much needed funds for the baby unit. To date we have raised c.£35,000 and our goal is to raise a further £50,000 by 2021.
Why TMBU, and the story behind the S7 Ted’s Trophy?
Ted Macdonald (S7 founder Gavin’s Godson and son to proud parents Claire and Dean) is an amazing little boy with a truly inspirational story to tell….
Ted was born via an emergency caesarean, after his mum, Claire had a placental abruption, causing him to be starved of oxygen and arriving with a 0 on the Apgar scale (The Apgar score is a simple assessment of how a baby is doing at birth, which helps determine whether your new-born is ready to meet the world without additional medical assistance. An evaluation one minute after your baby is born. Rated on Activity (muscle tone), Pulse (heart rate), Grimace (reflex response), Appearance (colour) and Respiration (breathing) scored from 0-10).
Ted was closely cared for in intensive care, and spent 5 days on a cooling mat to keep his body temperature down in order to reduce his brain swelling and causing further brain damage.
The work all the staff put in to nurse sick babies back to health is awe-inspiring, and this is why Trevor Mann Baby Unit is our flagship charity. More information about Ted’s Story can be found here.
Other CSR Activities:
As well as our charitable activities, we are also passionate about other CSR categories:
- Environmental efforts: One primary focus of corporate social responsibility is the environment, and being an ‘online’ marketing agency, we pride ourselves in taking steps to reduce our carbon footprint
- Ethical Labour Practices: Search Seven treat employees fairly and ethically
- Volunteering: We host volunteer-based events where we can invite a group of marketers together in a specific industry and give them free tips and advice around digital marketing. We hosted a digital marketing workshop for charities as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival, and this will become an on-going venture for us
